How Barrier Solutions Kept Retail Big Guns Firing Through Lockdown

As non-essential retail re-opens following the third lockdown, companies are coming to terms with a business landscape that has changed dramatically since the start of 2020.

For some, looking at the retail success stories of lockdown – and how they coped with enforced Covid restrictions – could be key in ensuring their own businesses make a smooth transition to post-virus working.

One product that has proved itself indispensable during lockdown has been the temporary barrier – and it’s no coincidence that two giants of the retail world implemented temporary barriers early during the pandemic.

McCue-Banner Stakes, world experts in design, manufacture and installation of a range of barrier options, supplied retail food giant Waitrose with temporary barriers early in the pandemic.

Throughout the pandemic Waitrose has continued to safely manage the number of people in its stores, ensuring social distancing is maintained wherever possible.

The supermarket wanted to make sure customers felt safe and comfortable while doing their in-store shopping – and this included giving clear guidance on queuing should the need arise.

McCue’s temporary barriers were exactly the flexible, easy-to-use and assemble products Waitrose required, delivering the products to the shop floors extremely quickly, enabling store staff to utilise them in good time.

The solution provided by McCue enabled Waitrose to tailor their queueing arrangements, using the barriers across individual stores however required.

Ed from Waitrose & Partners in Hereford said: “The barriers enabled us to clearly signpost to our customers where to queue to shop with us, whilst providing clarity for those people visiting other shops in the centre.

Indeed it was a solution that McCue provided to another retail giant – a global leader involved in flat pack furniture and homeware.

Busy shops need to stay busy – and managing the queues during and after the pandemic is a critical factor for their ongoing success.

UK Sales Manager for McCue-Banner Stakes, Neil Cox, says: “We’ve been providing solutions for queue management across all manner of retail during the pandemic – and we’re particularly proud of our work with these two retail giants. Both of them have been open and extremely busy during the pandemic and it was essential that they complied – and complied fast – with the new restrictions.”

So as all retail reopens and your shop floor once again welcomes the footfall of shoppers, it’s good to know essential queue management is just a phone call away.
